  1. Questions to Ask Your Prototype Machining Contractor

One of the most important decisions that an OEM, inventor, startup business or even an established manufacturing companies must make in turning an idea into a final product will be hiring the right subcontractors.

In most cases, specialized services like prototype machining won’t be handled in-house because of the specialized machines, software and knowledge required to turn a drawing or an idea into a reality.

At JBC Machine, prototype mapchining is one of our primary specializations. Our team of machinists can work with your in-house design team from concept to completion, providing insight into how to best develop parts and components that are low-cost, durable and offer the best match in the overall design.

When hiring our team or when talking to different machining services, there are a few questions that are important to ask. These questions and answers will give you a good idea of the level of support and services you can expect during the process.

    Experience with Prototype Development
Development experience is the critical question every business or design team should be asking. Our team provides this information up front, allowing you to determine if our training, expertise and experience is the right match for your project.

Experience in prototype machining and not just general machining services is essential. Mistakes in creating the computer drawing and in failing to notice potential areas of design incompatibility or where industry requirements are not met in the design will end up costing your business time and money.

    Move to Production
There are some companies that are strictly prototype development services. They can assist with design and create the prototype, but they will contract out for any level of production after the prototype development.

At JBC Machine we can provide prototype design and machining and then move seamlessly into production. This experience assures full quality control and consistency in production, which is something that is an important consideration for our customers.

There are times when you need an extra level of quality, professionalism and experience to complete a project. JBC Machine is one of the top companies offering a full range of CNC machine service options. We have the latest in equipment and technology, but it is our highly trained and experienced machinists that make the difference in the quality of each part that we make at our shop.

  3. Why You Need a Custom Machine Shop

Whether you have your own machining equipment or rely on a service for your needs, a custom machine shop can be a valuable business partner to have. In fact, there are many important reasons to include a shop like JBC Machine in your operations. Here are just a few of the advantages you will enjoy.

    Special Orders

Do you sometimes get special requests from customers, which you cannot handle? Maybe they need additional parts on short notice and you simply do not have the manpower or equipment to serve this need. Maybe they’ve requested an operation that you don’t have the proper machinery to perform. Wouldn’t it be great if you had a partner shop capable of filling special requests from your customers? A shop providing “made to order” materials and parts can be an invaluable addition to your company.

    Plastic Parts

Maybe your facility is not setup for plastic machining. After all, plastic is not an easy material to work with and it should be done with sophisticated CNC machining equipment. You may be able to increase your business by offering plastic machining as part of your services. CNC machines made for this job deliver high quality materials at affordable prices, and JBC Machine, your custom machine shop, has all the right equipment and tools.

    3D Milling

Not everyone can perform precise milling in three dimensions. This kind of work demands precision accuracy and your machines may not be capable of this service. If you have the perfect part in mind, a custom shop can take your plans and turn them into reality.

    Reverse Engineering

Do your customers want parts which are hard to find or no longer made? As a qualified custom machine shop, JBC Machine can give you reverse engineering services. Many kinds of equipment today require special parts or they must be replaced. You can provide a valuable service to your customers if you can provide the parts they need.

    Hard to Work with Metals

Do you get requests for machined aluminum, bronze or maybe stainless steel? This kind of job often requires special considerations as well as special equipment. Instead of draining your resources with this work, consider outsourcing to a trusted shop. They can give you perfect parts in a number of different materials.

Choosing the Right Custom Machine Shop

Not all shops are the same, so go with one with an impeccable reputation for high quality and dependable service – like JBC Machine! This will give you the best chance for success and you’ll have a reliable business partner you can turn to in times of need. Call us today to discuss your project’s needs (920) 779-4075.

  4. Expert Turning Operations from JBC Machine

When clients come to us, they may have an idea of the specific machining method to create a particular part, but in most cases, they are looking to the professionals at JBC Machine to be able to select the right machining option.
Turning operations are a cost-effective, precise way to create specific shapes out of blanks or workpieces. It is not the correct option for all components, parts, and pieces. Understanding the process will be helpful in seeing why we often recommend this option to our customers.

    The Technology Factor

Most of our turning operations are completed using CNC equipment. We work with an existing drawing if you have one, or we can create the necessary drawing for our programs in-house. We have a variety of programs that can be used to create the computer model or drawing required.

We use AutoCAD, a very common program used in conjunction with CNC (Computer Numerical Control) equipment, but we may also use Catia or GibbsCAM programs. The specifics of the design will always be a factor in which program is the best option.

    General Considerations

In turning operations, the machining is done using a non-rotary cutting tool that is on a helix type toolpath. At the same time, the workpiece will rotate. The computer program controls the path of the tool, which can include a straight line, angle or a curve to create the desired shape or pattern on the external surface of the workpiece.

While it is possible to use the same process to create an internal shape, this is typically known as boring as opposed to turning. With the use of the computer control, very precise depths and shapes are possible with up to three different axes of motion. These state of the art machines need to be operated by a trained professional to achieve the desired results. Our machinists are the best in their field, undergoing continuous training and re-training to keep up with the speed of the changing industry. If you enlist JBC Machine for your next turning operation, prepare to say, ‘Wow!’
