    The Uniqueness of Stainless Steel Machining
    This process can include a wide variety of stainless steels, each having unique machining characteristics and challenges. Stainless steel alloys are ferrous alloys that contain a minimum of 10% chromium. The chromium forms a layer on the surface of the metal when exposed to oxygen that is impervious to water and air and handles stainless steel’s superior resistance to corrosion, rust and chemicals. Due to the alloying elements used, a thin, transparent layer is formed on the surface.

    In case, the surface is scratched or damaged otherwise, this thin layer, which is only a few atoms thick, immediately rebuilds with the assistance of oxygen from air or water. This is the reason stainless steel does not require any coating or other corrosion protection to remain bright and shiny even after decades of use.
