  1. How Metal Machining is Used in Manufacturing Parts

The controlled process of cutting a piece of raw material and creating a desired final shape and size is known as machining. Metal machining uses milling machines, lathes, drill presses and various other machines to manufacture shapes in a wide variety of metals. Several different types of machining methods are used for different materials, sizes and geometric shapes. At JBC Machine, we have a large network of highly skilled employees that enable us to provide complete machining solutions for our customers.

    Machining Types

    • Traditional metal machining or subtractive manufacturing is accomplished through various types of machining operations.
    • 3D Milling cuts complex geometrical shapes by moving the tool simultaneously in 3 axes or more across the work piece
    • Drilling cuts a round hole by rotating either the drill or the workpiece and feeding the drill into the workpiece along the axis of the drill
    • Turning removes material from the outside diameter of the workpiece by rotating it and slowly feeding a cutting tool along the axis of the workpiece
    • Threading cuts spiral grooves in the outside of a workpiece by advancing a single point cutting tool linearly along the axis of the workpiece at a precise rate while rotating the workpiece at a precise rate to generate the desired lead of the thread
    • Boring cuts a minimal amount of material from the inside diameter of a workpiece to increase size and accuracy of a hole by rotating either the workpiece or the boring tool and slowly feeding the tool along the axis of the workpiece

Electrical discharge machining uses electrical discharges or sparks to obtain a desired shape. Rapidly recurring current discharges between two electrodes are used to remove the material from the workpiece. This type of machining is best for parts that require thin features, deep cuts or square corners.

At JBC Machine, our team is experienced in all types of machining and is capable of handling orders with tough metals, difficult geometrical shapes, and varying tolerances to meet the specific requirements of a project.

    Tool Selection
The tools utilized in metal machining play a vital role in the quality of the parts that are created and the efficiency of which they are produced. The tools need to be able to maintain their strength and hardness at elevated temperatures and also not fracture or chip, especially when cutting operations may be interrupted. The tools must also have the correct geometry with proper clearances for the particular metal machining application.

Efficient and accurate metal machining relies heavily on the tools that are being used in order to get the job done efficiently and economically. At JBC Machine, we have the right tools for your applications and over 30 years of experience in the industry to make sure you get what you need.

  2. The Value of an Aerospace Machine Shop

Aircrafts and aerospace companies rely on high precision machining equipment for their steel and aluminum machining as well as other materials. At JBC Machine, our CNC machining services enable us to create the necessary parts and assemblies and also create the necessary finishes and coatings to match the exact specs. Aerospace machine shops make sure accuracy and quality go into every piece that is machined.

What an Aerospace Machine Shop Produces

The highest quality and caliber of workmanship is required for aerospace machining as well as Military hardware and other specialty parts spanning a wide array of industries. It takes a climate-controlled environment, accurate machine tools and a dedicated team to create the necessary parts and assemblies to meet standards and never compromise quality.

Finding the Right CNC Machining Company

Aerospace manufacturing has to be precise. Lives are at stake and billions of dollars are on the line. Every product of every production phase has to be perfect and it takes creative designers, brilliant engineers, and amazing welders and machinists to produce the parts that keep aircraft “on the ready.” The machine shop must have both the tools and talented personnel to bring a part from drawing all the way to its final stage of production/testing.

Successful Shops Have a Track Record of Success

Word travels fast in the aerospace industry about a shop’s ability to turn out superior products. At JBC Machine, we have the knowledge, skills, and customer references to prove it.

Finding the right company for the job is crucial. We are a Gulfstream Aerospace approved vendor for machined parts, which is proof of the quality craftsmanship being produced here at JBC Machine.

  3. 3D Milling, Expanded Options

3D milling is a viable solution in many environments across many industries for creating parts with complex geometry. With the wide variety of CNC milling machines in the market, you will want to choose a shop with quality equipment that you can rely on. JBC Machine is on the cutting edge with respect to equipment and milling abilities and takes pride in providing a complete solution. From Aerospace to Vacuum packaging, JBC has the 3D milling experience needed for your next project.

    What Does 3D Milling Entail?

Whether it is a conceptual idea, a sample or a drawing, customers can expect their idea to become a reality.

    • Design – Customers can bring their idea to an engineer or designers. Afterward, a 3D model is created. At JBC Machine we can take an idea and turn it into reality by using state-of-the art machine tools and the latest software. The technicians are extremely talented and experienced using tools like AutoCAD, Catia, or GibbsCAM to create the exact model desired.
    • Programming – 3D design is high-tech and some companies have the software along with the expertise to load a customer’s 3D files directly into their modeling system. Then once a model is obtained, their programmers can put the software to work creating the desired 3D milling programs. The actual milling process, for some of the highest quality designs, may use what is considered a mold-making machine like the OKK VB53 at JBC Machine.

    Perfect Designs

Precision is a necessity for all projects whether simple or complex. High-speed, accurate milling is the result of experience, keeping up with technology and the actual milling machine used. This 3D milling machine needs to be able to work quickly across every axis to produce amazing finishes that are free of flaws, divots, or gaps. Surface uniformity is something JBC Machine takes pride in.

JBC is a three-time recipient of the Gulfstream “Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year” award, starting in 2009, which verifies it is a highly desirable vendor for a 3D milling custom job shop. This means you can count on top-of-the-line services.
